A shocking case of fraud has surfaced after a tenant reportedly sold his landlord’s 4-bedroom duplex for ₦83 million and vanished with the money.
The incident was shared on TikTok by a Nigerian lawyer identified as @theomonilelawyer, who explained that the tenant had lived in the property for seven years before orchestrating the scam.
According to him, the tenant forged multiple documents, including a deed of assignment, survey plan, and a receipt from the Okota family, to deceive a buyer into believing the property was legitimately for sale.
After receiving payment, he allegedly asked for a four-month grace period to vacate the house, claiming he needed time to secure a new residence.
The fraud came to light when an agent discovered that the supposed “owner” was actually a tenant, contradicting the property’s rental status.
With the landlord now back in Nigeria, the case has been handed over to the police for investigation.
Issuing a warning, the lawyer stressed the importance of proper checks before property transactions, cautioning: “Verify property before buying. Don’t be a victim of land scammers or house purchase scammers.”
