A heated moment from the Next Afrobeats Star talent show has gone viral after a contestant known as Star Light furiously confronted the judges following his rejection on stage.
During his audition, the contestant, Star Light performed his original song titled Gobe, but the judges were visibly unimpressed. One of them gave a particularly blunt critique, saying,
“The fact that I can’t even remember your name means you haven’t done anything memorable here.”
The remark instantly set off the contestant, who reacted angrily, defending his craft and expressing frustration over the judges’ comments.
“I want you guys to get used to my name — Star Light. One day, you’ll buy tickets and come to my show. Apart from here, I can make it. It’s just the stress you guys made me pass through. Get used to my name and face; you’ll see me on your TV screen soon,” he fired back before storming off stage.
As one of the judges tried to call him back, Star Light refused, snapping,
“Why do you want me to come? You guys don’t understand my sound. You’re telling me trash, get out!”
The viral clip has since sparked a wave of mixed reactions online. While some social media users praised the young artiste’s confidence and determination, others described his behavior as unprofessional and disrespectful.
The incident has reignited discussions about how aspiring musicians handle criticism and rejection in competitive entertainment spaces.
This was a very mean and disgraceful display by the judges of Next Afrobeat Star for a performance that really wasn’t all that bad, especially if you listen from a place of vision and potential
If these are the kind of judges selected for this program, it needs to be cancelled!! https://t.co/KHesh2c4Vp
