The long-awaited attempt to cook the world’s largest pot of Nigerian jollof rice by Guinness World Record holder Hilda Baci has officially begun at the Eko Hotel and Suites, Lagos, drawing massive crowds and star-studded support.
After weeks of preparation, Hilda Baci, the celebrity chef swung into action on Friday, revealing she would be using 250 bags of rice for the historic feat.
Viral videos online captured the moment the rice was poured into a steaming sauce inside a custom-made six-metre-wide and six-metre-tall pot.
Nollywood actress Funke Akindele was also spotted lending a hand at the giant pot stand, helping with the sauce before the rice was added. Attendees even got a taste of the sauce ahead of the big mix.
The event has already pulled in Gen Zs, millennials, food lovers, and celebrities, with organisers confirming that over 20,000 people registered to attend the free festival.
Promising an unforgettable experience, Baci assured the crowd that the record-breaking meal will be both “amazing and hygienic.”
